I often see actors arrive on the set unprepared for a day of filming in China. Here are some things that you may want to consider taking to the set with you.
For Summer Filming- A medium/large backpack
- A bottle of water
- Packages of instant coffee
- Snacks to munch on (The Chinese Mystery Movie Meal may not be enough)
- Tupperware with some food you like
Saizaryia restaurant (cheap Italian food) 1 block from Shanghai Film Studio at Nandan Lu & Tianyaoqiao Lu is open until 5am - Soya Sauce (if you don't like dry white rice - Fill a small empty water bottle)
- 2 packs of cigarettes (for you smokers)
- Napkins and/or toliet paper
- Book
- Gameboy or PSP (bury in the bottom of your backpack!)
- MP3 (bury in the bottom of your backpack!)
- Dress shoes that fit you (They don't have sizes over 44)
Out of town overnight filming- Shorts
- Change of clothes
- Small towel (Many Chinese hotels don't provide this. Also, some hotels don't have hot water in the morning)
- Toothbrush, soap, etc.
For Winter Filming- Hat
- Gloves
- Extra socks
- 1 or 2 pairs of long underwear (You won't be laughing when you're cold!)
- A big warm full-length jacket or big pull-over (Big enough to go around or over your costume)
- Small heater (If you are filming out of town and staying at a hotel)
Don't take anything that you can't afford to lose, or keep it with you (Cell Phone & Money) or bury it in your backpack!
I hope this will help you actors to have a more enjoyable and comfortable filming experience.
